The two modes can be accessed by clicking on the tabs in the top lefthand corner.
The search results are visualised in the two lower windows:
The window on the left contains two more tabs - "Settings" and "Personal list":
Enter the complete word(s) in the first field "Enter search terms", using a space between words if more than one word is used.
You can also enter only the first letters of words, using an asterisk ("*") in place of the missing final letters: the search engine will find all words beginning with the indicated prefix.
You can search for abstracts containing all of the entered terms ("Search all terms"), at least one word among those indicated ("Search any term"), or all of the words in the exact order given ("Search exact phrase").
You can perform the search in all fields of each abstract, or select a specific field from the ones available on the pulldown menu.
You can limit the search to a particular day and particular period of a day, if required.
You can further limit the search to a category of symposia, or particular symposium and/or session, by clicking on a sequence of options provided by the "Symposium/session" pulldown menu.
You can also filter your search according to presentation mode: oral or poster.
Click on the "Start search" button to activate the search engine.

You can also enter only the first letters of words, using an asterisk ("*") in place of the missing final letters: the search engine will find all words beginning with the indicated prefix.
You can enter different words for the various fields of the abstracts, and vary the search criteria for each field.
You may indicate whether the entered words should be found in all of the abstracts searched ("Must" or "May"), whether they must be considered elimination criteria ("Exclude"), or whether they must simply be ignored ("Ignore").
For each field, you can use the words "AND" and "OR" to link the entered terms.
For example, if you enter the words "earth AND tibet" in the "Title" field, the engine will search for all abstracts with titles containing both words.
If you enter the words "earth OR tibet" (the same as entering a space between one word and another), the engine will search for all abstracts with titles containing at least one of the two words.

The results table consists of a number of columns set by default, which can be modified by varying the criteria found on the "Settings" page.
By default the results are ordered according to the "Score", indicating the degree of match with the set criteria.
By clicking on a particular column heading the results will accordingly appear in alphabetical order. The chosen heading will be highlighted in green.
Click on the icon in the first column to go to the full text of the selected abstract.
Click on the "+" button under the heading "Add to list" to add an abstract to your Personal list.
Use this page to set your personal preferences for visualising the results.
You can:
Go to this page to visualise your own personal list of abstracts extracted from the search results.
The table has the same form as the one shown on the Results page, minus the "Score" column.
You can cancel an abstract from your list by clicking on the "-" icon under the "Remove" column.
